Project Information
Promotion of energy efficiency strategies for São Tomé & Príncipe, the island country of West Africa, in order to establish a national energy label and accompanying legislative framework. The project was completed in collaboration with DGRNE (Directorate General of Natural Resources and Energy) and AERE, and financed by UNIDO.
The main objectives of the project were:
- Baseline assessment of the market for lighting, refrigerator and air conditioning appliances
- Propose a compliance and implementation framework for establishing MEPS & energy label of those appliances
- Propose national energy label and accompanying MEPS
- Propose a regulatory framework to facilitate the establishment of MEPS & labels
- 3-day training workshop involving local stakeholders
The project was successfully completed after numerous visits to São Tomé & Príncipe for meetings with local actors (energy agencies, ministries, customs services, environmental organizations, banks etc.) to achieve a better understanding of the current energy situation in the country.
